One of the highlights of Greek wedding tradition is the bridal bread : a round loaf, ornately decorated with symbols and flora that used to be the equivalent of the modern wedding cake. This workshop teaches the art of creating and decorating this very special treat, a symbol of marriage.
Arolithos is a unique private Cretan village. It is a family business, run with great passion and love for Cretan tradition. Its goal is to present Cretan tradition, the customs and habits of the region and the architecture and values of Cretan people to visitors and preserve these for future generations.
Arolithos means “a rock’s hole gathering and conserving rainwater”. The village has taken that symbolic name because it encompasses and conserves the traditional ways and rural beauty of Crete. Through its wide range of activities, visitors can escape the present and travel back to the past.
Built on the slope of a mountain, amidst the wild Cretan landscape, the village is a feast for the eyes, evoking memories from the past and images of generations past and their way of living, while revealing the simplicity and beauty of old times to younger generations.
